One of the most important things to consider when buying a keyboard is how big you want it to be. One of the first things I did when I unboxed my new Mac was toss the included Apple keyboard into a drawer and grab a more comfortable keyboard from my repertoire. I’m primarily a Mac user, with an M1 iMac as my main machine. I own several of the keyboards on this list, including the Logitech MX Keys Mini for Mac and the Logitech Craft keyboard, both of which are among my top choices for anyone who does a lot of typing. But if you’re already stuck with the smaller keyboard and looking to replace it or you’re just in the market for something different, there are many great keyboards from other companies that are compatible with Mac. You do, at the time of purchase, have the option to upgrade to the Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad, which is nearly half a dozen inches longer. The keys on the stock Apple keyboard are shallow and uncomfortable to type on, and the keyboard is only about 11 inches long-about the same as the one on the 16-inch MacBook Pro laptop.
The Apple Magic keyboard is sleek and nice-looking, but those are the only good things I can say about it. Your Mac deserves a better keyboard than the one Apple includes with your purchase, and I say that as a longtime fan of the company’s products.
